Hey readers today I will tell you about an awesome dramatic story ‘A Question of Trust’ by Victor Canning with my art of telling story.
It’s about a man named Horace Danby who made locks in the eyes of society but actually he was a thief and robbed a safe about every year and yes the reason for robbery was not other than book. It’s too astonishing to get that one robbed for books. He was a person who loved to read books so he trickled to rob a safe every year and then buy books secretly from a book seller.
This time he decided to rob a house at Shotover Granage to which he became familiar as one magazine published about the description of the house even it had published that there was a painting in house which hid a safe and how the burglar alarm is built and could be switched off from room . Horace laughed at foolishness of house owner that how foolish he is that he described about all these things.
Horace made a plan to rob the house at a perfect day as he got that house owner and his wife were gone to foreign country and there were only two housekeepers who were going to watch movie this evening.
He entered in the garden and took a look with binoculars on the activities of housekeepers. After some time he noticed that housekeepers were going and locked the door and placed it inside a flower pot planted along doorsteps .
After some time when housekeepers were gone Horace suddenly sneezed rapidly actually he was suffering from a disease called hay fever. Then he tried to take out the key and opened the door. As he entered there was a dog tied with a rope and as he started to bark .Horace called it’s name ‘Sherry’ as he know the trick that to silent a dog it’s name should be speaked correctly which gave a familiar feeling to dog . Then he entered in hall and cut the burglar alarm . Again he started to sneeze repeatedly. After a minute a lady walked down stairs and asking from Horace what it is a normal sneeze or a hay fever. Within no time Horace answered that it’s hay fever. Than lady replied with showing confidence that hay fever can be cured if the cause is clear.
With the reply she came in front of Horace. Horace became afraid by seeing a young beautiful lady as according to his knowledge there should not be anyone in the house. After a moment lady admitted that she is house owner’s wife and came back here with a reason and was surprised to see such a burglar. Horace said that now what will you do. Lady admitted that she will of course call the police. Horace argued that he will not let her to do so and said that he would tie her with rope and would cut the telephone line and would leave the house. Lady smiled and said that I would not call police if you will do my work. Horace asked what to do . Lady told that she want to take her jewelry to the bank locker as she promised to her husband before leaving to foreign country but forgot so now she wanted to do so but …
Horace interrupted Oh!but you had forgot the password of safe . Lady replied positively. Horace agreed that he will open safe and she would let her go freely. Lady agreed too. Horace took his gloves as now he was not feared because house lady asked her to open safe. He opened the safe with in half an hour and moved out from house and left for his home.
He now became busy to search a new house for next robbery. Suddenly police entered his house with arrest warrant and took him to police station with crime of robbery at Shotover Granage . He told to police that house lady had asked him to do so. But police didn’t believe him as the description that he told about house lady didn’t fit to the house lady as the real house lady was old and hard tounge lady and she told that this story is total nonsense. Now Horace was given imprisonment of 10 years . He became Assistant Librarian and always think about that young lady who was in same profession as him but fooled him. He became angry when someone said ‘Honour Among Thieves’ .
